Pride in Medicine Executive Committee

  • Matt Marino

    President · General/Colorectal surgical fellow · He/Him

    Matt is a newly qualified general surgeon currently undertaking sub-specialty fellowship training in colorectal surgery. He initially had the idea of entering a float in Mardi Gras World Pride to recognise and celebrate LGBTQIA+ doctors, medical students and patients. He hopes to build Pride in Medicine into a group of rainbow doctors that will advocate for, mentor and educate rainbow doctors and medical students and the wider medical community.

    Vice President · Public Health Registrar · She/Her

    Jen is a Public Health Registrar with the New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine based in Wellington, New Zealand. She has a passion for intersectional health equity and system change. She is part of Pride in Medicine because she sees the strength of a connected medical community which cares about rainbow/queer people for bringing about change in healthcare.

    Treasurer · Endocrine Surgeon · He/Him

    Born in Taiwan, James moved to Australia as a teenager, and is grateful for the opportunities his new home has afforded him. James strives for harmony, diversity and inclusion in the healthcare and academic settings, and also in the wider community. He works as an endocrine surgeon in Melbourne, and is an adjuct associate professor at Monash University.

    After over a decade nursing in the Intensive Care Unit at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Megan began studying Graduate Medicine at the University of Wollongong. She is passionate about equity in healthcare and becoming a practitioner that can provide high quality, safe, and affirming healthcare to gender and sexually diverse patients.

    Rosie is a final year student at UNDA. She came to medicine after a zigzagging career through psychology, youth mental health, social media and drug and alcohol research. Rosie really just wants everyone to have access to comprehensive and compassionate healthcare, and is working with Pride in Medicine to help make that happen for her fellow LGBTQIA+ community members.

    Alasdair is an Emergency Medicine Advanced Trainee, from the UK but currently based in Melbourne. He has been involved with Pride in Medicine since it's inception and worked to produce the 2023 Mardi Gras parade float entry.

  • Allie Drew

    Education Officer · O+G unaccredited trainee · She/Her

    Allie is currently an unaccredited trainee in obstetrics and gynaecology in the Gold Coast looking to specialise in sexual health. She is a clinical tutor at Griffith University and Bond University. She is passionate about advocacy and education. As the education officer, her aim is to provide resources to educate and empower others in the area of rainbow medicine.

    Alex is an unaccredited trainee in Obstetrics & Gynaecology based in Sydney. Originally from London, he moved just before the pandemic and Australia is now home for him. Alex is keen to advocate for rainbow doctors and medical students by collaborating with medical colleges and universities to improve training and education around LGBTQIA+ issues across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

    Oliver is a junior medical officer currently based in Tasmania. He's passionate about the representation of and support for gender and sexually diverse doctors. He aspires to improve the knowledge of practitioners on gender issues and make workplace and patient interactions as affirming as possible.

    Steph is a final year medical student at the University of Notre Dame currently living in Naarm. They are passionate about the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ content in medical education and creating safe and inclusive learning environments for medical students.

    Raz is a SET 4 accredited Plastics and Reconstructive Surgical Registrar in Aotearoa NZ. He has a focus on promoting diversity and inclusion amongst surgical trainees, and building awareness around these issues for all doctors in the workplace.
